Suryanarayana Temple
Aarasavalli
The Suryanarayana Temple is one of the most famous temples in Arasavalli, Srikakulam. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and it was built in the 16th century. The temple has a huge Nandi sculpture which is carved out of a single rock.
The temple has an imposing entrance gate with two towers on either side that are adorned with sculptures of gods and goddesses. There are many shrines inside the temple complex, but the main shrine is said to be that of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
We take a day trip from Visakhapatnam and stay over night to see the temple. It is a one-day package for Rs.1,500 and includes accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner.
It is the only temple in India that has the statue of goddess Saraswati in her four forms. The other three are Saraswati as Brahma Jnana Shakti (Knowledge), Saraswati as Laxmi Natha Shakti (Wealth) and Saraswati as Kala (Time).
